Sad News

This blog is a place where I usually chronicle my happy exploits with my two little ones. Not today. In order to explain my absence for the next week, I wanted to share the news that my father passed away yesterday after what was truly a heroic, three-year battle against death. He wasn't ready to go, but his body had done all that it could.

So my next week is going to be spent giving my Dad a proper send off, having talks about why our Papa had to go to heaven and remembering the man who was dancing at my sister's wedding only ten days ago.

He was a pretty remarkable guy.

I will be back in July.

I'm so very sorry. And I think it's wonderful that he was dancing 10 days ago. So often we waste away for months or years, just staying alive, but enjoying little. I'm glad he was able to have some fun for so long.

I am so sorry. My thoughts are with you and your family and sadly, I've been there as well.

I lost my dad (3) years ago this Sunday, 17 days after my 1st wedding anniversary. I never thought my wedding pictures would be so significant and I will never forget the love and laughter that encompassed our family that day.

I will be thinking of both our dads this week...

Hi commenters! I just wanted to say how touched I am that so many of you (most of whom I don't even know) have taken a minute to leave a comment about my Dad's passing. Your kind gestures have been great comfort to me and served as a reminder that the connections and networks that women are forming through the internet are true and real. I feel like each of you is a girlfriend giving me a hug. So thank you.

Here's a virtual hug. Thinking of you and your family. How very lovely that your father danced at your sister's wedding. He sounds like a fascinating man, a wonderful father.

My dad passed away at the end of April and so I know how difficult it is to lose your dad. On one hand, you don't want your dad to suffer but on the other hand, he doesn't want to leave and you are not ready to see him go. I don't think that will ever change for me. Sounds like your dad was a wonderful guy. You'll think of him often and smile. Wishing you well with the new baby on the way! Sandi
